Dear Kindergarten Parents,
I am excited to begin a new year and work with your student this year. Our days can be very long especially at the beginning of the year so please be patient with your child when he/she comes home from school.
My husband, Randall and I have two daughters, Katie and Ashley; and a son Randall Jr. We enjoyed living in the Spring area since 1985 and have recently moved up to Montgomery where we have a lake home.
I grew up in Houston and I graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas TX. I received a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten/ Early Childhood Endorsement. I began my career teaching Kindergarten for five years followed by Second grade for four years. I was able to take an early retirement to raise my children until 2004 when I returned to my favorite profession, Teaching Kindergarten at Lakewood.
I hope that I will have the privilege of learning more about your family this year. Please feel free to contact me or schedule a conference if you have any questions or concerns. I am very excited to be a part of the Lakewood Kindergarten team.

Kindergarten Parent Letter/ Beginning of the Year

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Kindergarten and Lakewood Elementary. We are excited about the opportunities this year will bring us. We want you to know that we have considered the many adjustments your child will be making and have set up our environment in order to best meet the needs of the students.

You will need to know the following information in order to get the year off to a successful start.

Please let us know how your child will be going home from school. Changes cannot be made without a written note. Voice mail messages and email messages cannot be accepted for changes in transportation. If an emergency arises please contact the office and they will get a message to your child’s teacher.

Your child should carry a backpack every day to school. Please label with your child’s name, teacher’s name, and room number. It needs to be large enough to carry numerous items such as; lunch box, binders, jackets, etc. Your child will also have a Blue weekly communication folder that will come home every Wednesday.

Children may bring a check or cash to pre-pay for meals or you may prepay online at . Kindergarten students are not encouraged to buy ice cream or snacks at lunch time as they tend to not eat the lunch provided by school or home. If you do not wish for your student to purchase these items, you must request this through the food service department.

Your child may bring a healthy snack to school each day. Due the different allergies in our class this year community snack will not be used. Please label child’s name on a disposable baggie or disposable container. Look for more information at Orientation.

Your child is allowed a small water bottle with a sport type pop-up lid. The bottle should be no larger than 24 oz. and should be filled with water at home. Juices or sport drinks are not acceptable. If your child does not want or need a water bottle, water fountains are easily accessible to each classroom throughout the day.

Toys – Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school.

Dress Code

See handbook online for specific guidelines (Go to the Tomball web site and go to the bottom of the page. Then type in Student Code of Conduct or you may just copy this link to your browser:  ). Please remember that students are not allowed to wear spaghetti straps or tank tops. Tennis shoes are required daily in order to participate in Physical Education class and for play on some of the playscape equipment.

Notes and Calls to the Teacher

Please feel free to call, email, or send a note regarding any questions or necessary information we may need. We may not be able to write or call you back immediately, as our days stay very busy. We will address your questions or concerns as soon as we possibly can. The school phone number is 281-357-3260.

Visitor Tags

Visitor tags are required for any visit to the classroom or the lunchroom. Please stop by the office to sign in and get your visitor tag.

Name Writing

One of the first skills we work on is first name writing. Please assist your child in modeling and encouraging his/her name writing with the first letter only capitalized. All other letters in the name are lower case.

Example: Name

Thank you for sending your children to us. We look forward to a fun, exciting, and successful year of learning.
