Gifted students love to be challenged! Sometimes they need motivation to keep stretching their abilities. And they need to be celebrated to take pride in their accomplishments. The Duke TIP 4th–6th Grade Talent Search benefits are designed to meet those needs.

Enrichment activities

Duke TIP Book Club

In the Duke TIP Book Club, students read current, age-appropriate literature alongside other gifted and talented TIPsters. We provide activities and guided reading questions to help connect the book to other subjects, foster discussion, and develop critical thinking skills. Students can also create their own projects and make friends with other TIPsters in a safe, moderated space.

A new selection is unveiled every two months.

Duke TIP Writing and Illustration Contest

Each year, 4th–6th Grade Talent Search students are invited to submit a story or illustration for TIP’s annual Writing and Illustration Contest. Monetary prizes are awarded for each winning entry, and the students' enrolling schools receive matching prizes as well. Read more about the contest.

This monthly, online magazine helps students explore new topics. Issues include feature articles, interviews with an experts, hands-on activities to try, and the chance for students to publish their creative work.

Academic 411

An annual online publication issued at the beginning of each school year, Academic 411 provides students with advice on how to navigate school as an academically talented student. It covers topics like making friends, bullying, and important skills.

Academic competition, program, and scholarship listings

We provide resources to help connect participants to programs, competitions, scholarships, and awards that are of interest to high-achieving scholars.

Online academic activities

Students can challenge themselves with a series of activities exploring cryptology, story writing, and energy. Activity guides are found online, but are completed at home.

Rosetta Stone Foundations

4th–6th Grade Talent Search participants are also eligible to purchase Rosetta Stone Foundations, a special version of the language learning software only available through educational outlets like Duke TIP.

Above-grade-level testing

For an additional fee, we offer optional above-grade-level testing that can reveal important information about students’ strengths and abilities. Learn more about our above-grade-level testing philosophy and benefits.

We help students take pride in their accomplishments with multiple kinds of recognition. We provide merit certificates after students enroll and recognize students who do especially well on the optional PSAT 8/9 test. Details about test recognition can be found in the PSAT 8/9 section.

Certificate of achievement

Every 4th–6th Grade Talent Search student receives a personalized merit certificate. We also provide schools the tools to recognize their Duke TIP talent search participants at a local level.
