Tomball ISD’s Teacher Incentive Allotment Plan Approved by TEA

TOMBALL - Tomball ISD is proud to announce that it has received TEA approval of its Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) Plan, which is designed to provide an avenue for Recognized, Exemplary and Master teachers to be rewarded for their continued high-quality service to the students of Tomball ISD.

The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) is a program created by the Texas Legislature as part of House Bill 3 to provide increased compensation for districts’ most effective teachers and to help attract and retain highly effective teachers.

“In Tomball ISD, we understand it is important to recruit, retain and reward high-performing teachers, and TIA is providing us with this opportunity,” said Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora, Superintendent of Schools. “It truly was a team effort in creating this TIA plan and I’m thankful we are now able to support many of our deserving educators.” 

The TIA system was designed to help districts identify their highest performing teachers by looking at a variety of measures including student academic growth and classroom observations. When looked at in combination, these measures helped recognize and reward highly effective teachers that will, in turn, be eligible for increased compensation. The exact amount available to each teacher is dependent on a formula determined at the state level, which also takes into account the number of students who are economically disadvantaged.

 Tomball ISD stakeholder committees finalized designing the framework to complete the application for Cohort D, which was submitted to TEA in April and sent on to Texas Tech University for a data analysis to determine if it would be approved. This robust process involved stakeholder meetings for Tomball ISD Board of Trustees, teachers, and campus staff, to identify student growth measures that will now be used, as well as appraisal calibrations that effectively align student growth and teacher appraisal performance.

Tomball ISD TIA strategic planning committees worked diligently to identify its success criteria and develop a plan that best meets the needs of all TISD students and teachers.

Founded in 1908, Tomball ISD now encompasses 83 square miles in northwest Harris County and southwest Montgomery County, and is located approximately 30 miles from downtown Houston. The district currently educates over 19,000 students at 22 campuses.
