Attendance Zone Realignment Committee

Tomball ISD invites parents to volunteer for the Attendance Zone Realignment Committee to create several new school attendance zones.  In August 2015, the district will be opening three new campuses including Wildwood Elementary on Northpointe Blvd., Oakcrest Intermediate on Shaw Road, and Creekview Elementary on West New Harmony Lane in The Woodlands.  In August 2016, Creekside Park Junior High on Creekside Green Drive will also open in The Woodlands.  Therefore, it is necessary to review and realign several attendance zones.  During this process, the committee will work with a demographic consultant and jointly develop options for the new attendance boundaries.  The committee will make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees, who will review and set the new attendance zones.

The Attendance Zone Realignment Committee will be comprised of school staff members, district administrators, and 12 parents representing five different zones throughout the district.  Five alternates will be selected should a parent member be unable to serve.  Two parent volunteers from each of the five district zones will be selected during a random drawing.  Two At-Large parent positions will also be drawn from all of the remaining registration forms.

Parents can register to serve on the committee by completing the form online at www.tomballisd.net by clicking Realignment Committee.  Please return the form to your child’s school.  You may also fax the form to 281-357-3128, email christrotter@tomballisd.net, or deliver the form to the John P. Neubauer Administration Building, 310 S. Cherry Street.  The deadline for submission is Wednesday, Sept. 24 by 4:30 p.m.

Tomball Principal Partners

Parents, business, and civic leaders are invited to serve as a Principal Partner in Tomball ISD on Monday, November 3.  This new program allows community leaders to partner with a TISD principal.  Tomball ISD’s Chief Academic Officer Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora explained that the program increases awareness and understanding of the strengths and challenges of schools within the district.  “We see this program as a way for the private sector to demonstrate their commitment to ensuring a quality public education for all students,” Salazar-Zamora said.

On the day of the visit, the partners will spend time with the principal, faculty, and students sharing ideas and learning about the school’s day-to-day operations.  The guest principal might teach a class, meet with student council members, attend student performances, read to students, shadow the principal, or address a class assembly.

Partners will be matched with an elementary, intermediate, junior high, or high school based on the participant’s area of expertise, interests, and the school’s needs.  At the end of the visit, all guest principals will convene with the superintendent of schools and discuss their experiences and potential plans for future involvement with their host school at a luncheon to be held in their honor.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our school district,” Salazar-Zamora said.  “We welcome community participation in our schools and we’re looking forward to working with those individuals who would like to serve as a Principal Partner.”

Community members interested in signing up should complete the Principal Partners Application.  The deadline to apply is Monday, October 13.  All applications should be submitted to the Tomball ISD Curriculum & Instruction Department at 310 S. Cherry Street.  Completed applications can also be emailed to marthasalazarzamora@tomballisd.net.
